OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission Statement of the Men and Women of the
Cherokee Police Department
is to:
        Maintain the  philosophies and practices of the highest levels of law
        enforcement professionalism.
        Work in partnership with the community and each other to identify and resolve issues which impact public safety.
Provide courteous, quality service to the community at all times.
Diligently preserve peace, investigate criminal activity and prevent crime and disorder.
Enhance the quality of life, while maintaining respect for individual
rights and human dignity.

Utilize and maintain the highest standards of training and law enforcement technology to ensure excellence in protecting our community.

HOURS OF OPERATION

The police department administrative office is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Police officers are available 24 hours each day, seven days per week, 365 days per year.  You may contact the officers on duty by calling the communications center at (712)225-6728 or by calling 911 for an emergency.


GENERAL INFORMATION

The Cherokee Police Department consists of 8 sworn officers, a civilian administrative assistant,
13 reserve law enforcement officers, and a police K-9 that is trained in narcotics detection.  All law
enforcement officers are trained by standards set by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.  Additional training is received through attendance at specialized schools, seminars, and in-service training.

The Cherokee Police Department provides and participates in various community prevention programs as well as additional services to the community.  A few programs include salvage vehicle inspections, child safety seat program, business and residential security assessments, the sTEP program and D.A.R.E.
