                                                                                Budget Workshop

                                                                         City Hall, Cherokee, Iowa
                                            February 2, 2010 – 5:00 P.M.

Mayor Murphy called a budget workshop to order on this date.  Present:  Council Members Burkhart, Mallory, Morrow, Peck, Stieneke, Administrator Eikmeier, Clerk-Treasurer Taylor.

Administrator Eikmeier gave a brief overview of the proposed 2010-11 budget.  The City’s taxable property valuation
increased 11%, which is the largest increase the City has seen in over 10 years.  The increase in taxable valuation will
generate approximately $90,000 in revenue to the General Fund.  In talking with bonding companies and the City’s auditors,
the Administrator would like to work toward a minimum General Fund cash reserve of $75,000-$100,000.  The budget as
presented shows a General Fund deficit of $103,000.  Department Heads from Police, Fire, Library, Cemetery, and Park &
Recreation gave a brief overview of their budgets and answered questions from the Council.  The Administrator briefly
reviewed Administration, City Hall, Planning & Zoning and Building Inspection budgets.  No action was taken by the Council.
The next budget workshop will be held on Thursday, February 4 at 5:00 p.m.

On a motion by Morrow, seconded by Burkhart, the meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.  Motion carried.
